Personnel Officer

• Counsel supervisors and employees on USNH policies and procedures pertaining to human relations/personnel matters and assist in resolving any related problems through applying same.
• Screen and interview job applicants, determine eligibility, refer potential candidates and carry on follow-up placement procedures.
• Conduct orientation and other staff development/information sharing activities.
• Counsel employees on benefits-related matters, including retirement, major medical, HMO’s, insurance, forms processing procedures, etc.
• Work with applicant recruitment sources and provide such sources with required information.
• Conduct exit interviews with terminating employees.
• Keep informed of affirmative action/equal employment opportunity rules and regulations pertaining to the hiring and advancement of employees, and assure their implementation.
• Analyze, audit and recommend classification of support staff and non-status positions as assigned.
• Gather and organize survey data, as directed, for assignment of salary ranges to new or revised classifications.
• Within approved USNH salary ranges, recommend beginning rates of pay for candidates in routinely filled positions.
• Hear employee grievance sand attempt to resolve informally between concerned parties.
• Gather and prepare data for, and assist in the preparation of reports, analyses and publications.
• Supervise, evaluate and assign work to support staff as assigned.

• Bachelor’s degree and three years of related experience in personnel/human relations work, including one or more of the following areas: employment, compensation, benefits, training, personnel information systems, recruiting or AA/EEO.
• Communications skills, both oral and written.
• University courses in personnel administration, business administration, or education.
• Experience gained in the institution to be served.
• Experience gained in any operating unit served by the System
