• The General Manager is responsible for achieving optimal guest satisfaction and a good working environment to attain all set objectives.
• As a hostel manager, you are expected to champion the VBH culture through your team.
• Identify training needs of all hostel crew, schedule and conduct various crew training sessions as well as on the job coaching.
• Control hostel environment to ensure it carries the VBH Vibe, ultimately leading to guest comfort and satisfaction.
• Strive to meet VBH KPIs, by having a good understanding of what they are and creating action plans or solutions on how to achieve them.
• Ensuring that all guest issues are handled in a professional and efficient manner.
• Be well informed about industry competitors and leaders. Have a good understanding of the desires and needs of the backpacker market and be aware of happenings within the industry.
• Pioneer new ideas with regards to all aspects of the hostel to contribute toward improving our business.
• Attend and actively participate in weekly management meetings. Voicing an opinion of where all services can be improved or changed where necessary.
• Schedule and conduct weekly shift managers meetings.
• Together with the Hostel Supervisor and Head of Departments recruit, interview and hire hostel crew as required.
• Motivate staff and maintain a positive work environment, while continually promoting the VBH culture.
• Prepare weekly operational reports, including but not limited to sales, survey results and shift reports. Be prepared to present and discuss findings in weekly meetings.
• Carry out performance reviews, assess critically and deliver praise where warranted. Review and formulate action plans accordingly.
• Encourage and co-ordinate ideas from your team for hostel events. Schedule regular events within the hostels to entertain and retain guest business.
• Promote interaction between hostel crew and present and future guests through the use of social media and other channels.
• Maintain a strong and efficient two-way communication with the Hostels Business Leader.
• Establish and maintain a clear presence in the hostels.
