During my studies in tourism and hospitality, the school organized field trips to hotels such as Metropole and Intercontinental, as well as tourist destinations in various regions of Vietnam, such as Ha Long, Mai Chau, and Mong Cai. These trips allowed me to understand hotel operations, as well as the history, geography, and culture of these areas, which I used for my field reports. Simultaneously, I studied highly practical subjects like restaurant management and hotel management, giving me a fundamental understanding of hotel operations.

During my career course at Le Chanvre hotel and Spa, I also teach English whenever i have time off. However, in summer time, I had a lot of applications to study with me, therefore I have to choose between continue working at the hotel or accept the teaching opportunity since a lot of students in 4 months means a lot more temporary income for me. I decided to choose the latter. Now after summer is over and the number of students has dropped since they finished studying with me, I am now open to further career development in the hospitality long-term. And after I have a new job in the hospitality industry, I will only teach English sporadically since I want to have a more stable career in order to settle down with my family and relationship.

After being promoted from Bellman to Front Desk at Le Chanvre Hanoi Hotel & Spa, I had the opportunity to learn and expand my knowledge of front desk operations. During my time as a front desk receptionist, I learned how to operate the room and guest management system, understand guest information, needs, length of stay, and manage revenue. At the same time, I directly interacted with and assisted guests with check-in and check-out, resolved issues, and showed concern for their needs. Additionally, the front desk role required me to respond to guest messages and emails to provide remote support for personal matters or finalize reservations.

During my eight months working at the Le Chanvre Hotel, I experienced my first front-of-house position, specifically as a baggage handler. With my prior English skills, physical fitness, and the enthusiastic guidance from management and colleagues, I learned a great deal about how the front-of-house department operates. In my personal opinion, a baggage handler is not simply someone who opens doors and carries luggage; my responsibilities also include assisting the front desk staff during busy times, learning about attractions, restaurants, and entertainment venues around the Old Town, and coordinating with the front desk to answer customer inquiries and communicate enthusiastically, making them feel welcomed and cared for. Throughout my time there, I received many positive reviews on OTAs such as Booking.com, TripAdvisor, CTrip, and Agoda from customers who specifically praised me (my work name is Andrew) for my friendly, positive, and open attitude.

Restaurant Server and Host tại Khu nghỉ dưỡng 5 sao Broadmoor (Hoa Kỳ) - Broadmoor Hotel & Resort

From March to September 2022, I had the opportunity to work at the 5-star Broadmoor resort in the United States for six months. For the first three months, I worked as a Host at the Lake Terrace Dining Room restaurant within the resort. My main role was to welcome guests into the restaurant, record their information (name, allergies, dietary restrictions, etc.), escort them to their tables, interact with them, and distribute menus. I was also responsible for taking restaurant bookings on holidays and weekends, and arranging tables. For the last three months, I worked as a waiter/waitress at the Golden Bee restaurant and bar. My main responsibilities included serving drinks, taking orders, interacting with guests, and coordinating with the kitchen staff to ensure food quality and the speed of serving food and drinks. After completing my work experience, I improved my customer service skills, customer service attitude, and English communication fluency (I already had a strong foundation in English before that, so I met the requirements to work at Broadmoor).

There, I learned basic brewing techniques, sourcing ingredients, reporting sales, and learning recipes.
