1. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Job Summary – (Role Summary)

• Plans and implements the Hotel’s occupational, health and safety policies and procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities – (Key Activities of the role)

 Liaise closely with Department heads to ensure that all occupational health and safety aspects to the hotel are well panned and coordinated to achieve maximum impact

 Demonstrate advanced knowledge of occupational health and safety issues

 Assist in establishing policy and processes for accident compensation and staff rehabilitation

 Handle all communication concerning occupational health and safety and inform the HR manager of the day to day issues

 Ensure input into the orientation and induction of new staff including training in techniques of safe manual handling and identification and prompt reporting of health and safety risks

 Monitor staff adherence to workplace health and safety procedures

 Ensure staff of the establishment are aware of their rights and responsibilities as well as IHG’s rights and responsibilities

 Motivate staff to become involved in risk management

 Plan and co-ordinate activities which ensure the prevention and control of potential hazards

 Demonstrate a knowledge of hazard identification, prevention and control

 Maintain accurate records of safety audits, analyzing health and safety deficits in the environment and take necessary action to overcome problems and prevent and control risks

 Ensure procedures are in place within the establishment for the investigation and reporting of health and safety issues

 Ensure professional specific activities are carried out in accordance with relevant authority

 Fully conversant with all hotel emergency procedures

 Is prepared to implement assigned tasks during emergencies such as fires, power failures and bomb threats

 Assist team members for accidental insurance claim

 Provide guidance for team members for recruitment health check and follow up with claim procedure after two month probation of new team members

 Organize annual health check for hotel team members and advise on special case.

 Assists department manager to ensure departmental Risk Management Calendar actions are up to date as per monthly calendar schedule.

 Assists departmental manager with updating the Great Hotels Guest Love departmental Wheel in conjunction with departmental team, to be aligned with overall hotel Great Hotels Guest Love Steering Wheel. Communicates to team the actions to take on the Great Hotels Guests Love Wheel.

 Assists departmental manager in delivery of the IHG Commitment of Room to Be Yourself

Occupational Health and Safety Responsibilities

• Liase with Training Manager to demonstrate Awareness of OH&S policies and procedures and ensure all procedures are conducted safely and within OH&S guidelines

• Be aware of duty of care and adhere to occupational, health and safety legislation, policies and procedures

• Be familiar with property safety, first aid and fire and emergency procedures and operate equipment safely and sensibly

• Initiate action to correct a hazardous situation and notify superiors of potential dangers

2. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Required Skills –

• Communication skills are utilized a significant amount of time when interacting with others; demonstrated ability to interact with customers, employees and third parties that reflects highly on the hotel, the brand and the Company.

• Knowledge of local health and safety regulations

• Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office

• Good writing skills

Qualifications –

• Diploma or Vocational Certificate in Occupational Health or related field.

Experience –

• 3 years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience.
