Chief Engineer

Job Summary:

The Chief Engineer is responsible for leading all engineering and maintenance operations of the hotel, ensuring optimal functionality, safety, and efficiency of all building systems. This role is critical in both pre-opening setup and post-opening operational excellence, overseeing MEP systems, fire safety, utilities, sustainability initiatives, and vendor relationships. The Chief Engineer ensures compliance with local regulations, international 5-star standards, and brand requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

Pre-Opening Phase

• Review, validate, and follow up on all MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing), HVAC, Fire Safety, and ELV installations with contractors and consultants.
• Participate in project coordination meetings with the ownership, project management team, and design consultants.
• Ensure handover of technical documentation, warranties, and as-built drawings.
• Develop Preventive Maintenance Plan (PMS) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all equipment.
• Define spare parts, tools, and maintenance inventory list; coordinate procurement with Finance and Purchasing.
• Recruit, train, and supervise the Engineering & Maintenance team.
• Assist in mock-up room inspection, snagging, and commissioning.

Post Opening / Operational Phase

• Oversee daily operation and maintenance of:

• Ensure compliance with local authorities (Fire Department, Environmental & Energy regulations).
• Conduct regular energy monitoring and sustainability initiatives to reduce operational cost.
• Lead emergency response planning, manage crisis systems, and act as Safety & Security Committee member.
• Work closely with Front Office & Housekeeping to respond efficiently to guest maintenance requests.
• Liaise with F&B, Spa, Laundry, Recreation to maintain smooth operations in all guest and staff facilities.

Qualifications & Requirements:

• Minimum 5 years of experience as Chief Engineer or Assistant Chief Engineer in a 4-5 star international hotel.
• Proven pre-opening experience is mandatory.
• Strong technical background in MEP / HVAC / Building Automation Systems / Fire Safety.
• Hands-on leader able to balance strategic planning with practical execution.
• Fluent in English & Vietnamese (preferred).
• Strong leadership, problem-solving, and vendor negotiation skills.
• Experience managing Budgets, Capex planning, and Energy Saving projects.
