• Assist in the hiring, training, supervising, scheduling, disciplining, and planning of activities of maintenance department staff. Assist in developing and updating comprehensive departmental policies and manuals. • Ensure proper execution of work order/request system and that items are followed up on when necessary. • Maintain a good working relationship with other employees, providing instruction and encouragement as needed. • Assist in ensuring that effective preventive maintenance schedules are followed. • Assist in planning and implementing procedures, systems and controls to ensure an efficient maintenance department. • Directly supervise staff in carrying out work schedules as well as spot checking to verify quality and employee performance. • Ensure timely completion of all assigned responsibilities by shift Engineers and Engineering Managers. • Maintain logs on movement of stock items and tools. • Maintain part stocks and the distribution of items. • Handle the purchasing of equipment replacement parts and repairs. This includes contacting vendors for the best prices, writing purchase orders, receiving goods, and completing projects. • Ensure that all meter readings on gas, electricity, water and domestic steam and water are taken daily and reviewed for consumption. Assist in compiling a monthly consumption report on gas, electricity, water and domestic steam and water. • Set-up fire line safety system, valve locations and other emergency procedures that involves the department. • Ensure effective communication and good relations between the maintenance department and other departments in the Hotel and Residence. • Prepare and follow through on any projects as outlined by the Director of Engineering. • Assume the duties of the Director of Engineering in his/her absence. • Support the energy conservation program allowing the hotel to meet its annual budget targets. • Respond properly in any hotel emergency of safety situation.
