My values as a leader below is what separates me from other candidates.
I deeply believe to build a Culturally Engaged Team, it starts with “Trust”. The stronger the level of trust the better in creating a solid and engaged Team. If we cannot trust each other wholeheartedly, there is no full commitment and accountability among the Team. A good example, when I was the General Manager at The Partridge Inn, the Leadership Team always felt comfortable to lean into each other. As a Team we had one common goal and that is to achieve our Team goal during the economic down time, not to let our hotel lay off any of our staff and continue to take care of our team and our guests. We did it as a team, we achieved approx. 34% GOP | 24% NOI despite the odds were against us.
To help individual growth, I like to apply what I call the Newton’s formula of Empowerment “C2=T+E = Confident & Competence = Training + Empower”. I fully believe as a Leader we must focus on developing individuals through building their confidence and competence by professionally training and empowering them to take on making daily decisions. We can learn from others through their lens, but we learn faster and better if we see it through our lens/experience. We thrive and are eager to do more when we are competent with what we do and in return it builds our confidence. I am a good example of that, I came to United States many years ago and did not speak much English. Through my roommate, helping me with my English and having all the hallmates speak to me in English frequently. They never laughed or made fun of me when I did not understand them, they encouraged me. I am grateful for all of them, this allowed me to become confident and competent. My personal growth in the industry in the US is a great testament.
We are in a people industry, that mean mistakes happen daily. I never shy away from admitting my mistakes in front of others. I believe as a leader it is not about how many times, we are right. The most important part is having the ability to admit our mistakes when they are made, take ownership, and acknowledge by apology. Being vulnerable is not a weakness, it allows us the ability to relate and understand others, be grounded and humble, which is “Empathy”.
I am a true believer that before I can hold others accountable, I must first hold myself accountable to the Team. It is one of the important ingredients of building trust. To me “Accountability” is about the ability we can fully account for what we have committed to do for others and ourselves. As a people leader if I cannot deliver what I have committed to the Team that I work with, how can I hold the Team or any individual accountable for what they do? Get them to trust me as their leader to help, develop and lead them to our victory "Team Results".
I am looking forward to the opportunity to talk with you about how I can be a key contributor to the Team and Organization.
Sincerely
Newton
